Pollyanna

So, I just finished the novel Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter. It was written in 1913, and it is one of my favorite books. Porter truly knew how to put a smile on my face. This novel is positive, glass half full, ear to ear sugar. It teaches people how to see the good in everyone and in every situation. I would highly recommend it for anyone who needs a little cheering up.

The Glad game is a favorite of mine. I try to play it everyday. Here's how it goes: "It's a game Miss Pollyanna's father learned her to play. She got a pair of crutches once in a missionary barrel when she was wantin' a doll; an' she cried, of course, like any child would. It seems 'twas then her father told her that there {was always something to be glad about}; and that she could be glad about them crutches. He told her she COULD be glad because she didn't need them. And after that she said he made a regular game of it- finding something in everything to be glad about.."

It doesn't get any better than that folks.

"What men and women need is encouragement. Their natural resisting powers should be strengthened, not weakened...instead of always harping on a man's faults, tell him of his virutes. Try to pull him out of his rut of bad habits. Hold up to him his better self, his REAL self that can dare and do and win out! ....when you look for the bad, expecting it, you will get it. When you know you will find the good- you will get that..."

Seriously, you need to read the book.
