My Calling
Alrighty, let's talk about my ward for a minute. As a Latter-Day Saint, your ward is important, and I currently attend the 24th married student ward. It is a great ward. The people are very nice and caring.
When I first walked in to relief society I was overwhelmed with the babies. Everyone and their mother had a baby. Then I looked in the Relief Society binder....at the top of one of the pages it said, "Are you pregnant? When are you due?" There was a front/back/ and half a page of paper of pregnant ladies. My mouth dropped. I almost laughed out loud to myself.
About two weeks later, the Bishop called me into his office and extended me a calling. I am THE NEW MOTHER'S SPECIALIST. I thought that it was a made up calling-- but in my ward we actually need one. How crazy is that? In fact, there are two new mother's specialists in my ward! One to visit and bring a little gift or goodies from the relief society, and one to make sure that the families are fed. I am the NMS that takes care of the meals.
When I told Tim my calling, we were a little worried that we would be cooking for an army every night. However, so far I have had four moms and I have only cooked twice. The women in my ward are amazing! I never have to worry. I even had a sister that was past HER due date sign up to take a meal. Impressive, I know! The sisters are service oriented, as we all should be!
